Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono says Asia is well placed to be the world's future powerhouse - but it must first confront soaring demand for food, energy and water.He made the statement in Jakarta at the opening of this week's World Economic Forum on East Asia.
The event has attracted hundreds of political leaders and industry chiefs from across the region.
The forum aims to tackle critical issues facing Asia, including rising demand for resources and responding to natural disasters.
Missing
Dr Yudhoyono says the world is not short of ideas but there is a lack of consensus.
He said: "A global consensus is still missing in the climate debate.
"A consensus is still missing in the Doha round.
"A consensus is still missing in reforming global institutions.
"A consensus is still missing on how to rebalance the global economy."
