ASEAN defence ministers have met in the Indonesian capital Jakarta for talks aimed at boosting regional cooperation.

The 10 member nations are working towards the goal of an ASEAN community by 2015 and are hoping to increase defence ties.

Indonesia's defence minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro has announced a new agreement from the nations to establish a peace-keeping network.

"The network will facilitate the cooperation in peacekeeping among all ASEAN member states. It will conduct planning, training and exchange of experiences for peacekeeping operations and with along term objective of developing a regional arrangement." he said.

The two-day summit is also expected to address territorial disputes in the region including the Thai-Cambodia border and claims on the South China Sea.
