The Solomon Islands Opposition leader Derek Sikua says he doubts the country can achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015, as claimed by Prime Minister Danny Philip.

The United Nations set the goals which are aimed at reducing poverty and improving health, education and employment.

In June, Mr Philip said the results of the latest assessment have shown significant progress in health and education.

But Dr Sikua says there is little evidence to suggest the Government is doing anything to fulfill the UN obligations, in the specified time-frame.

He has told the Solomon Star the Prime Minister has been in power for almost a year and is distracted by the instability involving his cabinet ministers.
