Papua New Guinea's Opposition has criticised the government over it's failure to bring ministers to debate important agendas in parliament over the last two weeks.

The Deputy Opposition Leader Sam Basil says parliament has been adjourned unnecessarily as the government failed to bring MPs to the floor.

He says the absence of government ministers and MPs shows the government is not performing.

''We, the Opposition, believe that the government has not really performed and the government is not very serious in providing the numbers that there is quorum. The government is not serious in attending sessions," Mr Basil said.

Meanwhile, he has wished Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare a quick recovery from a heart surgery he under-went in Singapore.

''We all wish him speedy recovery and we all expect him to come back as soon as he recovers," he said.

Mr Basil says during Sir Michael Somare's absence, the government has lacked discipline under Acting Prime Minister Sam Abal.
